Sharing Connections encourages self-sufficiency for our clients while preserving their dignity and providing them hope. Our primary business is to collect and distribute furniture and other basic necessities to make a home for families and individuals in need. Sharing Connections further provides community education and networking opportunities in the support of our primary business. Through respectful interaction with partners in the community and our belief in the goodness of people, we help others.
Story from a Sharing Connections client: Carlotta came to our Center to pick up furniture for her daughter and her daughter’s family. The daughter, seven months pregnant, and her seven year- old girl had been sleeping on the floor of their apartment for two years. Carlotta came in absolutely determined this new grandchild would not begin life on a cold, hard floor. With the help of several staff members and volunteers, the family left with a van full with two twin beds and linens, a crib and linens, a couch, a changing table, clothing for everyone, cleaning supplies and baby care items. As Carlotta shared hugs with everyone, the relief and joy she felt in helping her daughter and grandchildren create a home radiated from her.
